Wing Tip Racing is the result of Bob Tyo Jr. getting the crazy idea
that restoring and racing a historic NASCAR WINSTON CUP (now
Nextel cup) would be a challenge. He saw an early 80’s Dave
Marcis Oldsmobile for sale on E-Bay and bought it. (What was he
thinking)? He later found out that the car was retired from racing
and it was taken to Throttles Restaurant in Michigan. The front and
rear chassis bars were cut out and stainless steel inserts were
fabricated to fit in the engine compartment and the trunk area. The
car was painted green and decaled in Hemelgurn racing logo was
than used as a salad bar in the Throttles restaurant and for
promotions for the racing team. Ron Hemelgurn who now has an
Indy Racing League Team won the Indy 500 in 1996 with Buddy
Lazier as the driver.

We wonder if Dave Marcis has a crystal ball when in a 1999
interview from the book "My Greatest Day in NASCAR" he
said...."I would like to see the cars go back a little bit more to
stock cars.....Get rid of this exotic air dams.....It would make 'em
harder to drive, but hey........
